Thumbs up for column folder browsing (OG iTunes) and search. Roon is mostly fluff. how about foundational bedrock functionality for playing music by your own algorithm? seriously, i am the only one who likes to get in their own flow, and have it be easy, simple and reliable?
If I’m not mistaken, all those models had (EE?)PROMS on the DAC board for the Mapper algorithm, not FPGAs. It’s only since the Vivaldi that dCS have FPGAs for the Mapper algorithm. So, you’re unlikely to get configurable Mappers for any of the older models.
Exactly, also the number of current sources is lower in classic gear not to mention other things like mapper speed. This is not realistic to ask imo.
As an Aurender N20 and Rossini APEX user, I 100% agree with you; the GUI is very important for the enjoyment of selecting music from streaming services. BTW, I cautiously expect dCS to integrate an HDMI CEC connection in the future as it will widen the customer base. I am picking up a new Sim Audio all-in-one with HDMI CEC for the family room for TV watching and music listening, and if satisfied, I will upgrade to an HDMI CEC-ready streamer/DAC/preamp unit and power amp. The hooked-up speakers are Marten Mingus Quintet 2s moved from my main listening room.
Is That It? Mosaic 2 is a crushing disappointment. No meta data, no total album time, no full screen library option. I could go on but this is not even up to where bubbleupnp was 10 years ago. Frankly, there is so little difference I wouldn’t bother updating.
As there is yet no Mosaic 2 release how do you now? occidentally I just checked update for my r my Vivaldi there is nothing available yet.
Mosaic reflects whatever data is sent from the source. Applications like Roon have this achieved as a separate businesss adding e.g. extra metadata. This is expensive to do and requires a monthly subscription from users, As all dCS DACS are Roon end oints to cater for users with these requirements perhaps this is what you require.? I cannot imagine dCS getting Mosaic to act as an equivalent and as a free service to users.
Incidentally licensed MinimServer for UPnP allows modification of its software so that additional features may be added though this may not meet all of your requirements.
Hi Pete
Mosaic 2 is a new app you will need to download from your app store of choice.
It’s a new app rather than an update to your existing Mosaic app.
If you search dCS Mosaic 2 on the store or use the QR codes supplied in our release you’ll be able to download right away.
Thanks
Mark
I downloaded and tried it on a break this am and it works great! Network discovery and device connection / reconnection is super fast! The update is worth it for that alone IMHO. Works well in slide over mode (over roon) on my iPad. One small nit pick is the back arrow in the upper left is obscured by the Apple windowing ui in slide-over mode. See image. (Apple took a step backwards with the slide-over UI in the latest iOS IMHO.)
Overall - fast and responsive and the UX enhancements like Audio Inputs dropdown are most welcome.
Would I have liked to have seen a config presets feature that saves different mapping / filter combinations… Yes! Perhaps it is in the roadmap…
p.s. the Chamayou’s Mendelssohn is a fine recording.
edit - adding album details: Mendelssohn: Songs without Words - Bertrand Chamayou. Erato
Just downloaded, very snappy/responsive in finding the devices on the network and overall. Will play some more.
Massive improvement! Much more likely to use Mosaic now. Roon is still going to my primary, but when I want that last ounce of quality, I have wav files on a usb stick into my NWB that just has that slightly better flow. Will be much more inclined to fire it up now. Thank you!
Thanks Mark though I think that better communication fro dCS would have helped. No announcement in the forum or directly via email to registered users, no Release Notes in their usual place in Enjoy the Music /Support, (latest at the time of writing is Mosaic 1.4.4).
It is and was all there:
Received my email this morning
Thanks Erno but nowt here. Perhaps @Mark or @James might like to find out why it has all been missing for me. me. I just rechecked my mailbox and this forum’s home page for latest additions and have checked the past few days’ p0stings, No announcement or Release Notes etc. Your link to James’ posting is s the first that I have seen of it.
Edit: I have just found the email.
Same here.
I stumbled on the release post this morning, I’m checking the forum daily hoping to see news about the 3.0 firmware ![]()
The look is refreshing, the quicker connection is nice, the ability to hide sources is nice as well. I would have welcomed a similar option for inputs as I don’t need them all listed.
Otherwise, there’s much similarity with V1 on many aspects
I saw the announcement in Insta.
The update has prompted me to compare Roon to the usb stick again. The contrast is more stark than I remember! I must get around to finishing my rips and keep buying more CDs!
I still have nothing regarding this release nor received any notifications.
Tried the new Mosaic 2.
A little underwhelming. There is still no cross-navigation possible like Roon or JPlay. Those are still much more intuitive and convenient to use.

Sourav
