Location for Network Switch

So, the final piece of my old Naim system has gone (Well almost😉)
I’m just a matter of days away from ordering my Vitus SIA-025 and Quadraspire X Reference rack. I had a home demo of the Vitus last week, it was sublime.

It looks as though it will be three X Reference levels, with the Vitus on the bottom, Bartók on the top…and in about nine months time, possibly a Innuos Stream 3 in the middle. I may decide to also get a Phoenixnet Switch. However, the Stream 3 and the Pheonixnet Switch won’t fit together on the same shelf. Can the Switch go elsewhere? (With longer Ethernet cables)

I am interested to know where members have located their Audio Grade Network Switch, other than on their rack.
Thanks

FWIW mine is on the floor. I’m in a similar position inasmuch as adding a shelf to my rack, as well as being ruinously expensive, would be unacceptable to my wife aesthetically, so it is what it is.

If by location you mean rack/shelf/floor: probably in that order.

If by location you mean in connection terms: as close to the Stream 3 as is practical and connected to it by an unshielded network cable or shielded cable which you know (or can test to confirm) has its shield grounded to only one plug. Not Cat 8 for example.

On the floor underneath the sideboard. I don’t use a rack. I posted my setup earlier this year right after I got it. I only had the Lina before then.

Upstairs away from my stereo room. I run a fiber optic cable from the switch to within 1 meter of my Upsampler where it is converted back to Ethernet Then that last meter is Ethernet into the Upsampler.

You have a dCS/Innuos/Vitus system costing a lot of money. You have a switch costing over £3k ( I think), part of the cost of which is elegant milled casework which is meant to be looked at. Yet you don’t want to spend money on housing it? To me this is like buying a Lamborghini then saving money by using retread tyres.

Buy another shelf.Even at X-rack prices ii will be a small percentage of the total system cost. If you don’t then in a few months you will be looking at your lovely Quadraspire rack wishing that you hadn’t dumped the switch elsewhere.

You could buy a single amp floor stand put it next to the Quaspire. Where it will be fine until you realise it isn’t really what you want ( I am aware form past posts that you are very aware of the aesthetic side of things).

Morning Jim
Trouble is, if I go upstairs, it’ll be on the roof! I’m one of those old boys that lives in a bungalow. But seriously, I do have many places that it could go. Thanks Jim, that sounds like a good set up.

David

Thanks Pete…I’m going to pop you a quick message.

I know for a fact that Melco Ethernet cables are now wired like that, not sure about other brands.
