Lina DAC X Review

The September issue of Hi-Fi News has just arrived and contains an enthusiastic review of Lina DAC X which is the first that I have come across. So subscribers to the digital edition and newsstand purchasers can see it over the next few days. However it will not appear online on their home page for a few weeks , at least until the October issue appears.

Meanwhile the Lina DAC X scores a remarkable 90% from them ( though exactly what the scores mean is moot or, at the most generous, unclear) . Whattever, this is the first product reviewed that I have seen enter this highest numeric decade.

Varèse was awarded 94%. In fact there are a couple of products that have broken the 90% barrier. The Rockport Orion (92%) is one that springs to mind.

If the Varese was a 94, then a 96 must be impossible!

The scores are %. So 96% of what exactly? HFN gives is no explanation.

Of course dCS improve existing products over time so I am sure that they will expect a higher score for Varese in some future review after an upgrade. It’ll happen :wink:.
