What’s 366 feet tall, 516 feet wide, has a 16K 160,000 square foot display and 169,000 speakers? Of course, I’m referring to the new Madison Square Garden (MSG) Sphere which opened last night (9/29) in Las Vegas with U2 kicking off the festivities and they’ll be there until mid-December.
For the audio portion, MSG partnered with a Berlin company called Holoplot to tackle the challenges of producing superior audio in a 3 million square foot curved structure. Check out this YouTube which is a good primer and a brief discussion of the use of ‘Beam Forming’ to address the audio challenges and provide an immersive and personalized audio experience, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJKMBlQDjDc.
If anyone has any additional factoids about the audio setup, love to hear them.
