hi can we please have keyboard control of volume in the mac app i.e. volume up and down with keyboard presses eg up/down arrow, as dragging the orbital volume control (if thats what its called) doesn’t work well for me. This should work whether or not the large volume screen is in focus or not (it currently timeouts and minimizes which requires a click to get volume control again - unless anyone knows a way around this)
I am not a Varese user but I understand that in essence Mosaic Actus functions broadly similarly to the earlier Mosaic . Mosaic/Actus is not available for Mac per se but is an iOS app intended for Apple phone or tablet devices. Checking with App store Mosaic Actus app is offered for this purpose.
Of course such devices do not have “real” keyboards only OSKs and I guess you would need to find a way of toggling between that and Mosiac Actus If OSK control were possible ( which I am not aware of ).
More to the point, your problem is :
May I suggest that ,subject to confirmation ,your issue sounds much like those found with systems that use the existing Mosaic where your device is losing connection with Mosaic Actus in Core. The out of focus screen reinforces this.
This has virtually always been an issue with the user’s network and not with Mosaic . It is normally not difficult to fix simply needing a default switch configuration setting to be changed ( where the setting impedes multicast packets).
The best guidance will be from dCS Support. So contact them at the below address, briefly explaining the nature of your issue, where you are situated and giving the serial number of your Varese:
Of course I may be wrong about this but I hope that you will now find a quick remedy rather than needing to await a revision of Mosaic Actus.
Pete, I believe he’s talking about the Volume control on Mosaic when run on Apple Silicon based Macs.
And I agree, it would be nice to have the Volume control “knob” adjustable via the keyboard Up/Down arrow keys instead of the touchpad tracking.
First things first, as Mosaic is officially supported under iOS and not macOS, it would be good if iOS volume control was already managed by Mosaic.
As an example on my iPhone under iOS18 using Roon app, the physical up and down left buttons normally controlling the volume of the phone, then control the volume of the selected device under Roon.
Using Mosaic, the same physical buttons aren’t “captured” by the app, hence just control the volume of the Phone and not the volume of Mosaic…
Maybe supporting this already could enable the control of the volume under macOS.
“My two cents”,
Erwan
Just a note…
Some years ago I was involved in the development of A.N.Other iOS app and we had exactly this issue … I don’t know whether things have changed but at the time (according to the iOS developers “rules”) you could only capture the volume up and volume down buttons if your app could be used for playback on the phone itself.
As the app in question couldn’t do playback on the phone then we weren’t allowed to capture the volume up and down buttons to control an external device although if the app had been capable of doing local playback - even if it wasn’t doing at the time - then using the volume up and down buttons to control an external device would have been within the rules.
I haven’t asked the devs but I presume that the same is valid here.
The Roon App / Spotify Connect / TIDAL Connect / Qobuz Connect can all be used for local playback so under those rules would be able to hook into the hardware volume buttons.
@Anupc - keyboard control is obviously different so I’m not referring to that here. ![]()
Thanks @Phil , I wasn’t aware of this restriction regarding iOS app development guidelines, but can’t say I’m surprised either regarding Apple thirst of control.
And I presume that implementing a trick such as a volume controllable “beep” that could be emitted on the iOS device (from a soft button under Mosaic support or whatever category) wouldn’t be satisfying/enough to workaround Apple’s restriction…
yes thx Phil, apple still doesnt like volume control of anything but the OS output (either ios or mac) but in this case I am not asking for keyboard presses to control Mac OS volume output. I am asking for the up arrow on a mac keyboard to increase the volume of the mosaic actus app by 1 when pressed and when the app is open and in focus if needed. completely doable without ant apple restrictions. Its just an alternative way to do the same as dragging with the mouse. but much more accessible. cheers
I’ve logged it as a feature request with the software team … ![]()
