Is this possible?

I have a dCS Network bridge that outputs to the dCS Scarlatti Upsampler.
This then goes to the Trinnov ST-2 DSP and from there on to the Scarlatti DAC.

I use Roon to control the files

The limiting factor in the chain is the ST-2 which can “only” handle a max of 24bit/196 kHz FLAC/PCM.

I have:
2000 SACD Iso files (they cannot be read directly)
2000 Folders of these ISO’s that are in DSD/DSF format
2000 Folders of these ISO’s that are in 24/176,4 format

I also play Qobuz which most of the time is 24/96 at best

So here is my question.
Can I set the Network bridget to output the maximum quality of the file offered to the Upsampler.
Then based on the received signal it either upsamples to 24/196 (Qobuz) or to 24/176,4 (DSF)

So a more intelligent/automatic setup which switches based on the offered input signal.

Many thanks for your thoughts

Peter, I happened to have the ST-2 as well, and when I used in my system (which I don’t any longer), it was in the following configuration;

Network Bridge → ST-2 → Vivaldi Upsampler → Vivaldi DAC

So, the room correction was applied to the native source stream rather than the Upsampled output from the dCS Upsampler.

I don’t quite follow what you’re trying to do here :thinking:

Thanks Anup,

I was advised to do the upsampling first and then do teh ST-2 DSP corrections.
That way the corrections will not be altered or influenced by the upsampler anymore.

I had it exactly the way you described before, but was advised to swap the Upsampler and ST-2

As for the second part, I am trying to get as high a quality/resolution output as possible but learned that it’s best to upsample in exact nrs. ie DSD to 44,1 to 88,2 and 176,4 and Qobus files to 48, 96, 192.

I want the upsampler to automatically outputs 176,4 when the input is a DSD file or FLAC in that resolution (44,1, 88,2 or 176,4)
and automatically switch to 192 when it receives a flac of 48, 96 or 192.

Makes more sense now?
Thanks

I think you’ll want to use the DSD downsampling on the NWB for those 2000 SACD files.

As the correction measurements is done in the analog domain (speaker output), it shouldn’t make too much of a difference either way in terms of the actual correction applied. Whether the ST-2 is placed pre-Upsampling or post-Upsampling, the Trinnov 3D mic is still measuring the Room impact of the impulse signal sent through your entire system chain, so the correction takes the whole chain into consideration.

However, digital correction on the source stream is much easier for the Trinnov to deal with than on the upsampled data, and you avoid the precise complication you’re trying to address;

Configure the Network Bridge do its job as if connected directly to the Scarlatti Upsampler (including downsampling DSD to PCM), then insert the ST-2 in-between for correction.
