Is a substantial Mosaic upgrade any closer?

I’ve no desire to open up cans of worms about whether Mosaic could or should be improved or whether there’s a sonic difference between Mosaic and Tidal Direct, Roon, etc.

I’m merely curious as to whether any forward progress has been made toward a major software upgrade because we’ve been told for a while now that such an upgrade was a goal for the company at one point in time. So, here’s a direct question: what are the chances we could see an improved Mosaic in 2025?

Do you want fact or speculation?

Fact: dCS do not reveal upgrades until they are launched. They did pre-announce the MQA update with dates but these target dates were substantially missed. It was subsequently advised that future updates would not be pre-announced.

Speculation: @Andrew has hinted at certain features discovered during the development of Mosaic Actus will be added once the production version is complete. However dCS is a small company with a limited number of engineers. Their work on one project may be shelved for another of more urgency. External factors such as licence approvals can also play a part. So there is no projected timing available to customers. One can only guess that it might be sometime during 2025. On the other hand it may not.

Note that no music data flows through Mosaic, only control data.

Thanks for the posts. I am grateful to own a reliable product that produces a sound I enjoy (Bartok Apex). So, there’s no need to defend the dCS product as far as I’m concerned. That said, I’m hoping there’s room here for constructive criticism. I would like a better interface. I find Mosaic to be a somewhat clunky and outdated interface when compared to any number of other company’s interfaces.

Examples? Aurlic’s Lightning DS platform. Innuous’s platform is also far more user friendly and aesthetically pleasing. While my friends enjoy the Bartok’s sound, Mosiaic always inspires a few chuckles and shaking of heads as to how the price of the Bartok and the quality of its interface seem to be out of sync. I am fully aware of Roon and Tidal Direct as options. I have my reasons for not selecting those options and don’t wish to debate or defend them.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to request and hope for improvements in the Mosiac platform. So, here’s wishing the engineers at dCS some time and space to improve the user interface. Happy holidays.

Thanks for the feedback @Vray. There certainly is room, it is one of the primary roles of the forum. Rest assured that comments like yours are read by all the right people here. Please (everyone!) keep the feedback coming!

Thank you, AndrewS! Much appreciated!

Updating mosaic would obviously be nice as well as Updating the remote ( plank) so it can skip to the next track, and do a few more things when you dont use a transport and stream instead.
Maybe the 2 will come in together when it comes out ?

It would be nice to offer the Varese remote to VRB users!

No it wouldn’t as the Varese remote is a Bluetooth not an infrared device. For a VRB unit to function with the Varese remote would require a significant hardware upgrade involving return to the distributor/factory. The price would likely be along the lines of the Apex upgrade as it is not just a component cost but involves labour, shipping and tax.For Vivaldi system owners this could be fourfold.

Anyway, no problem as I am pretty confident that it ain’t going to happen.

Shoot I thought it was wifi based not Bluetooth. Given this, as you said, it is never going to happen!

On the wifi aspect, this is, of course, Mosaic. We are already aware that some aspects of Mosaic Actus ( Varese) will be migrated to the existing Mosaic in due course. How much the two end up resembling each other is yet to be revealed as it seemingly only affects some areas.
