Installed a new switch today

I enjoy a debate as well (possibly more) than the next guy but it is becoming very apparent that neither of the main participants are going to relent. There is nothing further to be proved from this debate. Youve said your parts. Lets close it

@Phil - Thanks Phil.

It is interesting to see that more and more companies have realised this problem.

Melco Audio C100:

“The opposite (non-grounded) end of the cable features an innovative ‘floating’ shield, which is not attached to the connector plug, meaning unwanted noise cannot transfer to connected audio devices downstream.”

AIM:

“Drain Wire: Asymmetric Structure - Thanks to the asymmetric design with which the drain wires of the end connectors are asymmetrically installed (one is ground while the other is not)”

Tesafilm

More and more users that have CAT6A or higher uses “Tesafilm”: RJ45 connector on the transmitter side is stripped with scotch tape

All getting a bit heated which is rare for this site.
But whatever you think about network switches, the only real answer is just try one on your own system, and see how you get on. As some will like and others won’t, just like everything in life.

No more to say really

I can only add to Duncan’s comment: if you are interested in whether a switch or cable makes a difference to you in your system, you could go to a dealer that offers a home trial (or buy it from somewhere with a money-back guarantee).

If you hear no difference, the only thing you’ve lost is the time taken listening to music. Which is why we’re all here, isn’t it?

That of course goes for anything, from a cable to a new amplifier.

Try it at home in your system and if it doesn’t make an improvement, don’t buy it (or get a refund), depending upon your dealer’s policies.

Sadly, I couldn’t return the Gardenburger.

There are ways, but you usually don’t get a refund.

Fortunately the exit strategy was through the “basement”. It wasn’t bad enough for an emergency exit. :astonished:

HI Ermos, can you share the link where you purchases the switch. I am not able to find the exact model you are referring to.

Thanks,
Lake

Hi @lake_eleven, welcome to the forum.

The 2960 was a Cisco enterprise model and I believe it may be end-of-life so you will need to go to eBay or similar. You should be able to get one for £50-100/€50-100/$50-100 I imagine; it would not be new and factory sealed!

Best wishes,

Nigel

Hi Lake,

My network supplier unfortunately does no longer have any stock of the Cisco 2960, neither new, nor refurbished, as @TheFlash already supposed.

Thanks, I will try in ebay

How is the 2960 better than other switches? Looking to replace my non-audiophile switch at the top of my chain with a better product. Thanks.

the 2960 is one of the best bang- for- the- buck out there but  as always- there are better (and more expensive) solutions available (think Ansuz, Melco, Innuos build fantastic gear). And yes, I tested them all …

Thanks. Is this the product: Catalyst 2960L-8PS-LL Switch?

No, it‘s the old one 8-port non-managed (noise free!)

I need more ports. Do you know if a bigger model exists?

This one above (8ports) and the 24port unit are not new, they’re used but still available in 2nd market.

Thanks. So I gather that the 24 port is the same as the 8 port but bigger?

Yeah but the bigger ones may have a fan, not sure about that. SQ wise they‘re on same level. I know that the 8port is dead silence, I use it in my living room for apple TV, TV and Squeezbox.
