Most of us that stream, mostly use Qobuz or Tidal.
I have let my Qobuz Sublime subscription lapse, after the recent, and sometimes, ongoing fiasco.
I am trying the 7 day free trial, of HIGHRESAUDIO (Germany) It sounds very good, but may be not as comprehensive Artist wise as Qobuz.
Is anyone using the HIGHRESAUDIO Streaming platform? If so, your thoughts please.
I must add: Their iOS apps for iPhone and iPad will be available in about a week or so. Until then, It is available on Mac and Windows.
The good news is, the HIGHRESAUDIO streaming platform is available on my new Eversolo T8 Streaming Transport.
Billion $ questionâŚwill dCS implement it in Mosaic, in a future update?
Highresaudio stated as a download retailer. After some years they "converted"n that inventory of tracks by adding a streaming option. However I do not know what limits there may be and agree with your observation that their offering seems less comprehensive than Qobuz though it is some time since I last looked.
Will dCS add it as a service? Such additions are demand led and I have seem little request for this here. So dCS need to have sufficient requests to consider it. I suggest that you open the Feature Requests option in the forum which should assist in ensuring that they are aware of it.
Adding requests from users is not a simple âpress a buttonâ task for dCS and I remember a staff member pointing out that adding new features may cost dCS considerable money even though the result is offered to the public for free. No doubt inflation will have increased the sum involved since that posting some years ago. There is no guarantee that a single request will result in a positive outcome as many alternatives for the R&D budget may be in competition.
As for your experience with Qobuz we have seen no further notifications here of your issue so it may be limited to your experience currently. If so it may be a problem with your network. If it is any service added to Mosaic may then show the same issues.
Considering theyâre an Airable Content Partner and dCS uses Airable for API mediation, itâll likely just come down to, aa Pete suggests, having enough end-customer demand in order for dCS to include them.
Thanks PeteâŚ
Well, as I am unable to use their iOS apps, as they are not released just yet by Apple, I have been using the HIGHRESAUDIO streaming app on the Eversolo T8.
Itâs a tad flakey to say the least. I donât know if that is an Eversolo T8 issue, or what?
I mean, it plays okayish, but moving from album to album is a tad flakey.
Playing Dire Straits and the playback layout looks cool.
You had issues with Melco, then Qobuz on Mosaic, now hiresaudio via eversolo:
I think it unlikely that each of these independent streaming solutions have faults or even similar faults. As I suggested earlier, I am guessing that you may have something wrong at network level this being common to all. I am not competent enough to help but perhaps one of the network experts here could help out?
Are you saying itâs user error Pete?
Seriously though, My fibre internet is rock solid @150mps. Films are streamed and downloaded in seconds.
To be fair, many others have had issues with Qobuz over the past few months.
I spoke to Max Schuh at HIGHRESAUDIO who said, âEversolo have made a Horrible job at implementing our appâ
I was just interested if anyone was using the HIGHRESAUDIO streaming platform, as I think quite a few of us, including me, purchase and download music from their site.
Not in a personal manner. However the fact that yon have a fast, reliable, signal from your ISP and that applications other than some audio streaming work fine unfortunately may have no bearing on the kinds of issues that you have reported.
Apps work differently and the requirements of Mosaic may not be met but are fine for your movie app. So, for example, if software settings of your router/LAN ensure that multicast data is not passed you will have issues with Mosaic although it may not matter at all for your movies ( which you say are downloads and not streams in any case).
We also owe a breakthrough innovation to our R&D department for streaming music digitally in excellence to the customer. The magic word is P-MQS (Pure Master Quality Sound). The basis of an innovation, which sets new standards in the world of music reproduction and distribution, is our High-bit FLAC format. With P-MQS, our customers receive in a unique way via streaming the digital production quality from the recording studio. Authentic, native and 100% original, just as the artist and producer created their work.
I take it back. I canât imagine dCS implementing yet another proprietary codec just for one very limited streaming service.
The fact that they havenât got their app on iOS yet, (Theyâre still waiting on Apple) means they are still in the very early stages of Streaming and havenât quite got their act together. Also, they have quite a few albums missing from the Artists that I like, in their catalogue.
So although Qobuz are a bit naughty on occasions, I will re-subscribe to their Sublime subscription again, which gives me 60% off three albums that I will purchase, which in fact, pays for the Sublime part. They are also much cheaper to purchase than Highresaudio.
Further down in their FAQ they have the following;
We load the entire track / album into the RAM memory and play the music from the RAM (cache). That sounds far better than streaming directly from our servers. So we decided on the best possible sound quality. Unfortunately, weaker computers with little RAM and / or CPU are not suitable for HiRes playback.
So, perhaps itâs less of a new codec but rather a specific track playback buffering scheme. Which might explain why itâs taken them this long to create a mobile version of their streaming App.
If you ask me, it reflects an old-world mentality to Computing/Networking stack - if one were to go back 20-30 years, this sort of full track buffering in RAM made sense. With modern CPUs and high speed memory, not so much anymore.
The FAQ had this little nugget as well;
Special programs such as RAM cleaning tools clear the RAM memory.
I have to say from what I experienced Highesaudio platform is doing the most thorough testing of music in their catalogue. So every single album is meticulously screened about any upsampling or âfake high-resâ like manipulation. Some of that they mention here: https://www.highresaudio.com/en/content/qualityguarantee
