dCS receives the King’s Award for Enterprise

dCS has received a King’s Award for Enterprise – Innovation, in recognition of the Ring DAC APEX, a major hardware upgrade for the dCS Ring DAC…

The King’s Award for Enterprise is the highest official UK award granted to British businesses. It’s the second time we’ve been recognised with this honour – in 2019 we received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise for advancements made with the creation of our Vivaldi series.

APEX is a major hardware upgrade to the dCS Ring DAC – the unique digital-to-analogue conversion system found inside dCS DACs and Players.

Available with all new Vivaldi, Rossini and Bartók DACs and Players, and as an upgrade for existing models, it brings improved audio performance via extensive changes to the Ring DAC’s circuit board and analogue output stage.

These modifications have enabled us to further enhance the musical experience we provide for Vivaldi, Rossini and Bartók owners. The Ring DAC APEX is even quieter and 12dB more linear than previous Ring DAC designs, and listeners who’ve experienced APEX upgrades have noted a range of benefits from enhanced resolution to improved dynamics, rhythm and timing.

It’s a huge honour to receive this award and we’re delighted to see our engineering team recognised for their continued innovation.

Improving the Ring DAC’s performance was no simple task – our Ring DAC platform has been carefully honed and refined over decades to deliver sound with exceptional clarity – but through thorough exploration and various rounds of prototyping, we were able to make meaningful improvements that have resulted in tangible benefits for listeners.

As dCS Product Development Director Chris Hales noted in an interview regarding APEX, our engineering team are always exploring how we can improve existing technologies, alongside developing new platforms and innovations, and the improvements made with APEX are testament to this.

“Continual improvement is [something] we take very seriously. I think we feel that we owe it to our customers to do the best we can, and I think that those of us who are working on the technical side of things, are also just of that personality where we just want to improve things all the time. For whatever reason, there’s a huge philosophy of, ‘if we can make it better then let’s do that – it’s worth the effort’.”
