I had the enormous pleasure to host one of our forum members at the factory yesterday (I will leave it up to him if he wants to step forward). We spent several hours playing various tracks on Rossini, Vivaldi and Varèse and time simply flew by.
Both he and his son who joined him were both IIUC former Queen’s choristers at St. George’s Windsor. One of the tracks was a commercial release of St. George’s Choir on which his son was singing and which was absolutely superb. An excellent recording which faithfully captured the purity of the boys’ soprano voices.
So I spent an afternoon listening to beautiful music in the company of two of the most passionate and knowledgeable music lovers I have had the pleasure to meet. And this is my job.
Many thanks to @davo45 and @AndrewS for kindly hosting my son and I.
The factory tour was fascinating. The attention to detail, craftsmanship and innovation from dCS was clearly evident throughout the production process, with comprehensive checks at every stage, culminating with the well designed packaging.
That’s right.
Both my son and I were very emotional hearing this so wonderfully reproduced by the Varèse.
As you’d imagine, we are both very familiar with this recording, but the Varèse revealed the recording in a way that we simply had never heard before (including a mistake by the organist!)
It was certainly a memorable afternoon for us. My son and I were talking about the experience long into the night, with a ‘wee dram’ or two in hand!
I even dreamt about Varèse last night!
One day, maybe one day, I’ll get to own a Varèse…
In the meantime, I’ll continue to dream about it!
