I may be off or a day or two but my research indicates the following release dates for the original Vivaldi and Rossini:
V: 8/10/2012: 4,345 days ago = 11.9 years
R: 5/14/2015: 3,338 days ago = 9.1 years
As everyone is aware, the software and hardware has been updated numerous times during this period.
From my part, I am very satisified with my purchase. My Rossini DAC just works. I keep the display off, and knock on wood have never had a playback issue. To my ears, the Rossini sounds beautiful. It also interfaces with Roon, my server choice, flawlessly.
Accordingly, I only have two feature requests for next iteration of Rossini:
(a) Two balanced outputs pairs: Right now, a number of users run one balanced and one RCA, because this is the only option. I believe satisfaction would be increased with two BO and one RCA;
(b) DSD 256 playback: per prior threads, dCS needs to add this codex. It is the only high end DAC manufacturer that doesn’t offer it.
What are yours? (I do not own Vivaldi, so have at it) ; )
Rossini got APEX - imho this is like a Rossini 2.0
I have only small request: it would be very cool to have a larger display on dCS like Aurender N30 f.ex. that’s able to display the album/tracks etc.
Apart from that, larger buttons on front.
Its a good idea for those who want to run a poweramp ( or pre-anp) and a headphone amplifier. However how realistic is this request n respect of Vivaldi? What scale of demand is likely?It would require a hardware and possibly software update. The latter if, given the use, you may want a different line voltage for either. At least a replacement rear panel would be required but where could you place a pair of output ports? It is already without any obvious available space.
Anyway it won’t be free.
Given the age of Vivaldi or Rossini and their inevitable replacements perhaps this is more realistic a request in respect of their forthcoming successors ( whenever).
Vivaldi owners seem very satisfied. I would have expected to see (at least): separate power base, and/or custom optical cable between Upsampler and DAC to elimiate network noise…
No doubt dCS will explore all those options objectively in every effort to have a substantive jump in sound quality for their next-generation platform(s).
Considering the Vivaldi is still pretty much at the top of the DAC game sonically, in no small part from the 2016 2.0 upgrade and the 2022 Apex upgrade, both of which were significant sonic improvements, it can’t be easy to design a SOTA platform that significant surpasses the Vivaldi sonically (albeit feature wise, probably).
