Bartók USB and Roon Nucleus Question

Hi
Looking for some help…
Issue No1.
The music for my Bartók is stored on a SSD, within a Roon Nucleus.
Having a spring clean and a change of racks. I moved the Nucleus from one side of the room to other, powered it up, nothing, dead as a dodo!
Checked the plug fuse, tried a different wall socket, held down the button for 30 sec, hard reset, nothing. The brick has a green light displayed, but the Power button on the Nucleus is not lighting up.
Before I send it for repair, I want to try a different power lead, which must be 19V 3.42A. Have any Roon Nucleus users experienced this power lead issue, or can anyone recommend a power cable I can try, before sending it back?

Issue No2
Because of the above issue, I tried to put my backup SSD portable USB in to the Bartók, but it just displayed the letters EFI on the Mosaic app.
The SSD size is 250gb.

Thanks👍

The power lead rating mainly depends on your mains supply not the unit supplied and being in the UK in the beautiful county of Norfolk you need a fused lead to UK specifications. You are talking about sending the mains power ( 230V) to the Nucleus. These are usually supplied for 230V with the fuse rated at 13 amp. The latter may be excessive for what is a small computer ( the Nucleus ) and may need replacing with one of a lower rating to perform within UK safety regulations. I expect 3 or 5 amp may be more suitable.13 amp will work but exceeds UK safety regulations in this context.

As you should be aware I do not post cable recommendations these days but I will PM you.

dCS USB inputs are configured for casual use with HDD thumb drives just to play a few tracks that someone may bring round. They will work with drives <30gb.

Ah! So a 250gb SSD won’t work then!:astonished:

The Nucleus power lead, do you mean power adapter? It’s the same spec as the last generation of Intel NUCs - 19V 3.5A. If it’s warm to the touch I’d guess the Nucleus has a hardware fault, if cold a new supply off Roon/Amazon/eBay might work.

This like yours?

NUC type here - like a laptop there’s a separate mains cable usually cloverleaf into a power adapter.

Thanks Gus
Ordered a couple of cheap ones off Amazon. If they work, then it’ll prove the power lead is knackered!
The attached photo shows the supplied Nucleus power lead.

Ah, power adaptor? If that is correct my response whilst correct for what he asked it seems what David wants isn’t a power lead but a power supply.

Hi
I have a Nucleus feeding a Rossini. Just a couple ideas, with the goal of being helpful:

When you say “the brick”, what do you mean? If there is any light on the Nucleus you don’t have a power issue.

On my Nucleus the power on button is so recessed, it’s often difficult for me to turn it on or off. Have you tried a pencil or anything that is narrow enough for a “full” push or reset?

Finally, the connections into my Nucleus were/are quite tight. So much so that I once accidentally stripped the connector of a spec Blue Jeans Ethernet cable that I then had to replace. (Fortunately, I only buy $10 Ethernet cables!). Is it possible you damaged the male or female power connector during your move?

If all else fails you could buy a used Nucleus on eBay and simply move the SSD

Good luck!
R

Good morning
Thank you for your detailed reply.
I agree they are tight, although often that’s a good thing. Too loose, and flapping about is not good.

I have tried the pencil, no light. I have to say, the light on the Nucleus is naff. You need high powered Binoculars to see it!:joy:
Please see the attached photos.
As I mentioned, I picked it up, dusted it and put it on a rack (Temporary). I then gave the power lead/cable/power supply a good clean using a microfibre cloth, pulling it along the length of the cable. Perhaps a wire fractured inside the Ferrite choke/Bead?

Amazon is delivering a couple of power supplies, cheap and nasty, but if it works I’ll order a proper one from Roon.
The only one’s on eBay at the moment is the model above mine for £799. If push comes to shove, I’ll get the new Nucleus One for £599.
If it’s the Mother Board, I’ll not have it repaired.

Update
Tried two different power supplies, no response from Nucleus. Dead as a dodo!:disappointed_relieved:

Have you opened it up to check internal connections?

Yes I have. There is also light on the motherboard. If it is the board, they said it would be around £600!!

It’s packed up and ready to RMA back to Henley Audio (The UK Distributer).

I guess I’ll opt for the Nucleus One, £599.:disappointed_relieved:
