I just changed my through the web interface as you note above @Ermos. I changed it to dCS Bartok APEX HDAC. I’m using iOS devices and Mosaic seems to preserve the mixed upper and lower case.
Well, that is anyway consistent. Count your blessings
I am sure the original setting was dCS ROSSINI DAC too for me, and at last I remembered to have changed that myself, by adding APEX, just to reflect my investment
You do😆
I just looked at mine - no APEX any where to be found
I’m using the 6V setting
I’m not familiar with that logo – what is the brand of the CDP?
Hi
It’s Waversa CDT. It’s a Korean brand.
So given this, a question for @dCS regarding APEX identification: is the DAC identifier in dCS DACs built into the APEX DAC board itself, or does it reside on a separate piece of hardware in the the DAC?
I dropped down to 2V when I switched to the VTL TL6.5 SII. I feel like I get better SQ at lower volumes.
Hi,
The network identifier is not in the DAC board. The DAC board has no extraneous electronics or services on it that aren’t related to its role of being a DAC to ensure as much separation / lack of external influence / interaction as possible.
I decided to swap out our Bartok HP with a Rossini vs upgrading the Bartok to Apex. With just a few hours of listening, I am very impressed.
If I recall correctly, if you change the name in the web interface, it will change in Mosaic. To access the web interface the easiest is to type dcs-rossini.local (or I presume dcs-bartok.local) in your web browser. Or if you know the IP of the DAC, that works too.
And here I am wondering why my recently upgraded Bartok APEX is not being identified as such in ROON. Total memory laps - like the dCS web interface, one needs to manual change the endpoint name in the ROON preferences window!
I am wondering whether a name change in the web interface can change the quality of the sound perceived…
Ha ha — for sure, Diego
I reckon:
“Bartok Apex 3.0 (completely burned in)” should work nicely.
…Although having said that, Roon still identifies my unit as dCS Bartok HDAC when you pop up the Signal Path Star.
I have about 75 hr on mine now and with casual listening the first thing that really caught my ear is the greater sense of depth with well recorded material. In short it sounds like a better Bartok!
I named my Rossini the Rossini Apex 11. And now the sound quality goes to eleven. Yes my friends. Try it.
I know. I’ve tried. I bought a 100 $ DAC and I named it Vivaldi Apex 4.0 ; then I self-hypnothize figuring that there is a real orchestra in front of me each time I listen to music. It works ! Why spend all this money when we know how to trick our minds?
I think mine is fully run in now. I’m very happy with the results. Noticeable improvements across all functions - as a DAC, the pre out and headphone section all seem to benefit from the APEX upgrade.
Random question is it me or does the headphone amp in the Bartok take a bit if time to warm up to sound its best? Seems to sound a bit better after playing for a half hr or so.
