Hi, like possibly many other audiophiles, I am in my senior years. As a consequence my hearing isn’t as good as it used to be to be. My left ear would seem to be about 4-5 db’s less than my right. This is based on using Roon to increase the level of the left channel by 4-5 db’s. I appreciate that this ability means that there is interference/modification to the signal via Roon. Mosaic has a much better sound quality in my opinion than Roon and I feel that this is due to the lack of manipulation of the music signal. But I am wondering if there is any possibility of adding ability to reduce or increase the signal level from one channel in Mosaic….who knows, it might increase the appeal of dCS equipment to older enthusiasts. So, any thoughts?
From the Rossini manual, but it will work with other dCS gear:
Mosaic nor Roon do manipulate the music signal. This has been covered many times on this community. As long as you do not use any DSP or Volume Control settings in Roon, the signal is bit perfect.
Thank you for your reply…unfortunately I only have the dCS Network Bridge, so I don’t believe this has the ability to adjust channel levels. Due to my hearing issues I do use the Roon balance tool and therefore this does impact the signal.
I am afraid you are right, and unfortunately the Network Bridge is out of production, and I believe that feature upgrades are out of the question. But anyway I think balance control takes place in the DAC.
You may need to make the adjustment manually via your DAC.
I would suggest that you try to find what suits your hearing by trial and error. The 4-5dB loss may not be linear across all frequencies. Your hearing may also react to music signals differently in comparison to a series of single frequency hearing test signals ( the brain has a processing function).
Slightly off topic but I wish dCS would put a balance control slider below the volume knob in the Mosaic apps volume window
