Apple Music via USB to Rossini APEX

Thanks @aublumberg, cause for optimism. Strange though that there is no mention of this fix in the 18.4 RC 2 Release notes.

Curious whether you got it to work @jacobacci, did you have a chance to test?

This is my understanding as well. But if one streams to an Airplay 1 device which (VRB are) then 16/44 lossless is preserved and anything above is down converted by the device doing the streaming. High res up to 192 is preserved from an iOS device via USB. I’ve had no issues in the past direct connecting from my iPad Air into my Bartok, But curious to try again in light of this conversation.

Yes, I got it to work. The issue does not seem to be with the Apple OS version, but with the fact that the iPad upon connection of the Rossini (via a powered hub) turns the volume to zero, even if before the volume was at a normal level when listening on the iPad itself. This leads to the Rossini detecting the sample rate, but showing it is receiving a bit-depth of 0 (which literally is a correct reflection of the situation at hand). Once I increased the volume on the iPad to 100%, things fell into place. Music is heard and the bit-depth and sample rate are shown correctly and they change with content of different resolution.
This works with Apple Music and qobuz.
Apple may be doing this to avoid loud impulses when a USB peripheral is connected.
Be it as it may, our hobby is full of wonders and surprises.
