Who buys cds these days?

Look at absolute numbers. CD Sales are dwarfed by Streaming services. The point is that CD sales is not really making a “come back” as such.

Unfortunately the first link posted by you is blocked by a paywall.

However the point is not that music streaming is slowing down but that music streaming growth is. That has to be the case as the market reaches full maturity. It will still be dominant though.

This is basically only in regard to revenue (not subscriptions) of the majors only. It still records growth but not necessarily at levels previously enjoyed.Ad supported streaming can show a reduction but all that may mean is that Spotify is moving customers from “free” access to paid subscription. Of course there will be overall churn hidden within this.

I use streaming services to explore and review new music. If I really like the album, I will buy it on CD. Then I rip it to my music sever. This not only helps out the artist a bit, but I get to look at the artwork and liner notes. Remember how much better this was on LPs? Plus, I don’t trust streaming services being around forever or not making the monthly fee ridiculous. At least I would have my own library at home if they all went away.
