Track #4 “Guajeo y Tumbao” is a duet between Christian McBride & Eddie Palmieri.
The kind of duet that turns into a duel double-bass vs piano.
Duel, that is absolutely mind-blowing.
We can even hear both protagonits “grunting” during their “fight”.

This is this very title that allowed me to discover Mr Palmieri, and I often use it to evaluate HiFi equipment.
I also used it when I was given the opportunity to listen to the Bartok I eventually purchased.

R.I.P. Mr Palmieri.

Thanks @Erwan, really enjoyed that.

I was in the car today when I heard a song by Stacey Kent, very enjoyable.

The song was the classic, but in French Les eaux de Mars. Very fitting as we are in France enjoying our vacation.

Had the opportunity to see Doolin’ at The Ark in Ann Arbor last night. A fun night all around. It is hard to classify their music. They are a band from the south of France who do a lot of Irish music but also throw in a Charles Aznevour la Boheme. A tight group of musicians and a lead singer with a good voice.

Have to admit I am having a blast rediscovering the works of Eddie Palmieri. Infectious salsa which perfectly suits the wonderful summer weather we are enjoying here at the moment.

Haha. That (well, the original) was my test record when I bought my first system during my first term at university. In fact I think it was everyone’s test record at the time! Played it to death and haven’t listened to it since. Maybe it’s time to revisit.

It has been one of my test records for long as well.
Yet, I now really do prefer “Love Over Gold” or “Dire Straits” or even “On Every Street” over this one

EDIT: by the way, this “40th anniversary” edition of “Brothers in Arms” is excellent. Don’t know if there was any kind of remastering other than bit depth increase, but the sound as never been so immersive.

Was listening to Charlotte Gardner’s latest Classical Choices playlist (highly recommended btw) after which Qobuz flipped over to radio and played this which I enjoyed immensely.
