hanks for the information. I have not been a customer of HDTT since the early days ( last time I checked purchasing was only PayPal - which I don’t use). Although the 15 ips half track tape sounds encouraging from a provenance point of view we do not, of course, know what the origin of the tape was.
This is only the case for original DSD recordings and/or where editing is required. DSD normally requires conversion to PCM for this process ( why DXD was developed) and then re-converting to DSD. Of course digitisation from an analogue original of a final album may not need an editing stage.
Yes, I realised this on reading the HDTT website, hadn’t appreciated that before.
HDTT are at least fairly transparent about provenance (see this blog post which is quite informative). Most of their transfers are from commercial tape copies, although increasingly they have started to use original masters where available.
