Sorry Pete, you’re mistaken; The JPL-2800 “SilverStrike” is a CD/SACD/DVD mech. You’re probably thinking of the BlueTiger, which is a CD only mech.
IMHO, there’s ZERO chance Apple would pick-up Massimo Audio. The speculation came from one audio journalist (who doesn’t really know what he’s talking about as usual )
Their product sheet is contradictory. Although it says it can be fitted to SACD players it also says
loading mechanism only for use with a “CE industry
compatible” traverse mechanism for CD or DVD"
That makes it a DVD or universal type mech IMO. No mention of offering transposable laser focal lengths. dCS have always rejected such units which is why Rossini Player is CD only.
I tend to agree with you about Apple. However odd things could happen if they desired certain IP rights rather than maintaining hardware manufacturing. Think of Pacific Microsonics ( HDCD) and MS.
We plan to continue manufacturing the Rossini Transport and Vivaldi Transport II using the D&M mechanism. This announcement does not impact the production of new Transports utilising this mech, nor does it impact our ongoing service support for the models. We have suitable stock levels to continue producing them, as well as to offer ongoing service support for them.
