USB performance on Vivaldi APEX DAC

Pete, you lost me
what was the test setup?
Vivaldi ----?-----Router?

Interesting
In your case, I believe you’re using a Melco?

Currently router feeds a Melco S100 switch to Melco N5. PS for the switch is Plixir Elite and the DC wire is Plixir’s reference, surprising how worthwhile ( I have the standard cable here too). Various Melco cables used but NOT to Vivaldi which is Belden Catsnake CAT5E UTP.

As I can find no technical justification for any of this ( except UTP) I regard it as irrational. Very effective subjectively but irrational.

Thanks Pete,
so your setup is Vivaldi—USB—Melco N5—S100----Router?
Do you use a clock as well?

Yes, the dCS end of things is Vivaldi DAC, Upsampler , Wordclock and Rossini Transport . I use a pre-amp which is EAR Yoshino 868 PL with NOS Tungsram tubes.

did you try to attach the Melco direct to Vivaldi DAC without going through the upsampler?

No as I use Melco in its role as NAS not as a streamer, that requires network connection and a streaming board.

Not quite. I so not use USB. Connection from Melco to Vivaldi is network. As I said elsewhere in this thread I do not use Melco as a streamer but as NAS.

Pete,

I found this post about using your Melco for a NAS. I was wondering if you ever tried using a non dCS network streamer such as an Aurender N20 instead of a Vivaldi Upsampler?

Thanks,

No, as gains were made moving to Melco N5 as NAS and improved LPS to S100 rather than attending to Vivaldi streaming. It satisfies me to the extent that I have no interest in further changes.

Edit: The improvement noted was to local files , streaming from Qobuz and internet radio where N5 acts as a pass through for the latter two .No idea why though as it should not make a difference.
