Seriously though, I am completely content with my V One Apex and not even a straight up current-gen V trio exchange for my unit will convince me to change.
Even with just the Vivaldi One, I’m sure you’re curious how the SMSL PL200T (Clocked properly) sounds compared native CD playback on the V-One, and whether you can tell the difference blind 
This is just an update to say it’s been working faultlessly.
It sounds great, and the clocking has also been working faultlessly from the vivaldi master clock.
Once again i can only say what a wonderful transport this is for the money
It’s rather nice to use with the piano keys and it all feels quality.
Certainly very happy with it.
Treated myself to a power supply for this. I didn’t go over board on this, bit what I did was reach out to a cleaver guy on the maverick forum. Basically he has made a very nice 5v power supply for it.
Very cheap as well, £135 delivered, plugged it in tonight and pleased to say it’s working. Will be interesting to see if it brings an upgrade, but I am hopefull, especially after seeing the standard power supply built in the transport. But for the price I can’t see it going back.
I looked at this unit as well and wondering if one could simply run it off a 5v big battery pack. (I do this with my RME Babyface Pro FS which I use to convert by phono input). Since it is casual listening for me, not a big deal to unplug the battery after use.
The SMSL looks like a nice unit - with the clock input options is is clearly targeted at dCS and Esoteric users (at least on the commercial side)
You could I am sure, the one thing we did find is that the 5v, 1 amp isn’t quite powerful enough to run the motor and keep it spinning. It would power up, spin, then stop, wouldn’t reed the disc, and just kept trying. A slightly more powerful supply has sorted it, and it’s sounding great.
I opened up the transport to take a look inside and as said the standard power arrangements inside are very basic, so I am sure this power supply will bring a more quite noise floor to it, and hopefully I will notice it.
I am looking forward to reading your comments once it has had some running in time.
Haven’t really used it much as yet, but it is powered on and I will leave it on. But I have updated my upsampler tonight, and been trying to break it, but so far so good.
Been using the cd player very lightly, but as of tonight it’s power supply only as soldered the cable directly to the board, rather than the nasty cheap plastic plug on the board in the cd transport. As it was very lose and it just didn’t give me much confidence, I can easily solder the plug back on if needed, but I don’t have any intention of doing that, as I have the power supply so why not just use it.
I don’t think I would have done this if it was an expensive cd transport, but then the plug might have been a better quality. But it’s working still,no smoke, so all is good.
After buying a few CD box sets and trying to rip them, I gave up and, picked up one of these SMSL PL200t transports from Amazon: Here is the Good, Bad, Ugly and downright horrible.
The Good - seems to work flawlessly. It is perhaps the quietest, most vibration free transport i’ve ever used. And it sounds great via AES/EBU, slaved to my Rossini via the 75 ohm clock input. I’m unable to hear a difference between my CD rips played through Roon and the same CD via the SMSL
The Bad - I thought I’d love a top loader, but this one is fussy to use. The aluminum grip on the acrylic lid is small and awkward to grasp unless your hand is directly above it. The display is really nice but the readout is frustrating - the time details are nice and big, but the track number info is tiny and difficult to read from across the room
The Ugly - With so many buying on Amazon I thought Id give it a try. When it arrived, the OEM package was wrecked, it had clearly been opened - no shrink-wrap, the clamshell box was torn in half and the product info was ripped off the side. This was clearly a second - but no mention of that. The product inside however appears as new and had all of the protective plastic covers. The Seller was Fine Music. Amazon is horrible - next to impossible reach anyone to complain. Too much effort to return a product that appears to be working perfectly. What a lousy first experience with the SMSL Brand.
The downright horrible - Many I expect get a product like this and want to make sure it has the latest firmware. No version info in the menu. SMSL published an update on their site, so i downloaded and gave it a go. It took 20 min of conversation with an AI bot to figure out the correct Vulcan death grip to get the turn on sequence to work to install the firmware. Lousy UX.
Funny - I looked at a few video reviews - none of them picked up on this stuff.
In the end I will keep it as I want to have good CD playback and this is likely the closest i will get to the sound quality of a dCS transport.
also I picked up an iFi Silent Psu 5v which seems to play well with the SMSL
You can use it without the lid on if you want.
If i remember you just press play for 2 seconds and off it goes.
But enjoy it as i have and for less than £500 new all in, its great.
Also the clock works as it should and worth doing if you haven’t already.
