Very nice Chris! I have it on good authority that the S5 is one of the sweet-spots of Magico’s entire program.
Question: That looks like a pretty reverberant setting. How do you tame the RT60?

Thanks Chris- are the A models in the same ballpark SQ wise?
It’s a large room. 28x35ft. The walls are pecky cypress paneled (lots of holes), ceiling is 13ft high peaked with acoustic tile. Back of the room has open entry to kitchen and hallway, entire room is carpeted except for the hearth area seen in the picture. I have area rugs I place infront of the speakers as well
The A5 would be a large improvement over the Sopra 2 I believe. Even though considered Magico’s “entry level”. There is nothing “entry” about them . I was considering them also until I found these, which were dealer demos
Thanks a lot- my dealer already suggest to jump from Focal to Magico, you confirmed now…
Go have a listen, if you haven’t already. It’s a very different presentation than the Focals. Hopefully they let you home demo. A5’s are about 180lbs each. My S5’s are 220, the new S5 are 270. Absolute beasts. I’m thankful I have a freight elevator or they still be crated under the raised living space
my wife kills me if it’s bigger than my Focals…
The will be about the same size. A5 possibly a bit deeper
The S5’s have a smaller footprint and a few inches shorter than Sopra 3. I also have similar issues from the “house manager”
could you compare these with Wilson?
I can’t. I knew the wife would say, too ugly, so they weren’t a concideration
Recently replaced my Krell Pre and Amplification with all D’agostino. M400 MxV monos and Momentum HD pre-amp. It’s on a different plane now.
Congrats! Thats a nice system
Very nice indeed, and I also like your Richard Avedon photo collection.
While he is rarely (or no longer) with us, to liven things up I thought I would post this photo–from a public forum–of Andrew P’s beautiful system and room (from 2014).
To my eyes: Vivaldi (3 piece), Boulder 3060 stereo amp, Magico M3, Transparent speaker cables (Opus or XL). A simple and, IMHO, astounding combination of high quality gear. I will let those with turntable expertise chime in on the piece above the left Magico…
Cheers,
R
I will post a color picture when everything is ready the way I imagine but for now just the “rack.” On top of the Quest on the right there will be Pro-Ject CD Box RS2. If I don’t like the way the CDs sound, I’ll move the switch to the top right. The Roon Nucleus will most likely get a separate power supply and I like to keep all the equipment either on top or underneath the sideboard in order for the setup to look neat.
It actually looks very nice in Grey Scale.
Cheers
I received the speakers today, they are fully active, and I’m using the WestminsterLab Quest as a preamp.
Not much will change now except for a longer power cord for the Audes and the Roon Nucleus will be placed on top of a Keces plus the Pro-Ject CD Box RS2 on top of the Quest as already mentioned, and I’m not sure that it will stay there permanently.
cool!!! are you happy with these speakers? Thanks!
I’m very happy with them. The music hasn’t stopped playing at low volume since I received them five hours ago. The room is 46 sq meters (living room and dining room) and they fill the whole space with very enjoyable sound (right now with The Greatest Hits album of Simply Red). I have the volume on the preamp at 10 and the album sounds amazing especially if I sit around 3 m away from them. But most of the time I walk around in the apartment while the music is playing.
On the left, there is a front of four glass doors and it doesn’t affect these speakers at all. They are like studio monitors in a way. The only two things with a tile floor that are necessary is a carpet in front of them (it improves the bass, we tried with and without one) and they should preferably be placed on bases.
The whole system is set up for low volume listening, though. I chose the Rossini instead of the Lina, the preamp, and the cables specifically with that in mind.
I want to add two more things. I checked with one of the more advanced AI models on whether these speakers are similar to studio monitors. It thought about it for 24 seconds before it generated the response. Web search was activated in the prompt window when I asked the question, in order for it to pull the information from the internet. And the second thing is, I really like about these Avantgarde that the vocals are coming from the center, as if the Rossini came with an integrated speaker.
