Reference Clock for Vivaldi Master Clock

That is cool, Steve. Bookmarked for future dressing of less objectionable components!

The Perf10 needs a sticker…oooh…around about 19" × 3.5" in size to look bearable to me. Having it anywhere near the rest of the kit just turns my stomach. It lives under the rack, doing its Nightrider thang in private.

Thank you! That’s why I come to this forum, for these little tidbits of information. I agree the unit looks hideous, but there is an appreciable improvement of the presentation to keep it in my system.

Interesting

On an unrelated note regarding the Vivaldi clock, does anybody know if it is normal for the clock to shut down about 15 seconds after I power it on every time?

That sounds like “no.”

I have it plugged into my power conditioner and when i turn the power on, it comes on, but then shuts down 15 seconds later. Then, if i turn it on, it stays on…. No such things happening with my streamer or dac

That is not normal. I have mine plugged into my Shunyata power conditioner and it has been on for a few years and never turned off. Is it possible that there is some sort of cabling issue? I assume your clock cables are all 75ohm. If you go through the same procedure without any clock cabling do these same symptoms arise? Have you contacted your dealer about this? Very odd.

I don’t keep mine on all the time (we have strong thunderstorms in the summer in Florida and I’d rather not risk it) and it never shuts down when in operation. Just when i turn on my power conditioner for the first time, my clock, streamer, and dac all come on, but then the clock shuts down after 15-20 seconds and i have to turn the clock back on again manually (the dac and streamer stay on). After that, they all work perfectly. I don’t think the cables are a problem. The dealer set up my system with the transparent cables they sold me. Maybe there is a setting that is off? I’ll just have to ask them and see what they say.

Mine has never been off

Hi Kirill,

If the clock is plugged into a non-power-conditioned wall outlet then does it have the same behaviour?

I don’t see Vivaldi being replaced for quite a while now, and it’s 2024, not 2021. The Varese means that the next level product is out of the reach of many. Hopefully we will get some more trickle down upgrades to the Vivaldi and Rossini. My 2 cents.

I agree, the price gap between Varese and the rest of the line means it’s not going to replace Vivaldi.

That is correct. I do not think that there has ever been any intention for Varese to replace Vivaldi. It is, rather. an expansion of the lines offered by adding a level above.

However that is not the same as Vivaldi being replaced eventually. That will happen as that is the nature of things as technology and customers’ desires change. When this occurs is , of course, unknown but like its predecessors, Elgar or Scarlatti , one day there will be a replacement.

No question there will ultimately be a replacement for existing products…I just don’t view it as imminent as I’m sure a significant amount of design and new product implementation energy is likely channeled into Varese.

That is very strange way of comment recycling ?!

I wrote a sentence in February 2021, and with all the information we have in December 2024 what is the purpose of recycling such an old comment ?

Do you think that commenting in 2024 the information delivered by Issac Newton about gravity makes me a much better physicist than he was in his time ?

Let me guess, your profession is politician, am I correct ?

I am not bothered, nor angry, I am just curious about your motivation.

To each his own…I didn’t see it as such a bizarre comment and sorry you did. This came up because I’ve been thinking about how the dCS focus over the last few years on developing Varese of which no component is compatible with existing products (Bartok, Rossini, or Vivaldi) will affect the product life cycle of the current line. FWIW I would have agreed with your take in 2021.

I got comfortable with and used a Purcell/Delius from 2001 to 2024 despite many auditions of other products. My recent update to Rossini got me thinking about how long my Rossini/Vivaldi will be relevant.

Not sure what this has to do with Newton or Politics.

As long as you’re listening to it Harry, it will be relevant.
