Do better ethernet cables matter?

I was merely highlighting that you keep presenting your opinions as fact, as “hard” science; I see no evidence that this is the case and you have yet to share any listening experience where you have heard how a single-grounded cable “acting as an aerial” diminishes sound quality.

See my three scenarios above and address each of them so everyone can understand how the RFI reaches the DAC in each of them. “Aerial” suggests that more radiated RFI reaches the DAC with a single-grounded shield than reaches it via the conductors in an unshielded cable; unpack this and we might be talking science.

Not “hard Science”??:man_facepalming:t2: Clearly you haven’t understood anything from that previous thread.

My mistake replying to you. Won’t happen again.

Another post, another deflection. I understood everything there was to understand.

Ditto. We’re good. And both dCS fanboys at the end of the day.

No horse in this race, however I would assume if dCS is officially on record as recommending an unshielded cable, the engineers at the factory must have a scientific reason for saying so

Yes, it’s rock solid advice which I often give when asked:

  • because a shielded cable (with the shield grounded to both metal plugs) acts as a noise conductor to the streamer
  • because eg. Cat 8 cables are shielded and most “audio” network cables are based on Cat 8
  • and for this reason Cat 6 usually sounds better!

The advice was not written with single-grounded shielded cables in mind. As far as I know:

  • there are only two of these on the market
  • dCS has never specifically referenced single-grounded shielded cables.

Plus, if for whatever reason there’s heavy EMI/RFI issues that warrant the use of a shielded Ethernet cable, that’s all the more reasons properly certified shielded Ethernet cables should be used.

There’s clear physics & engineering reasons why single-end only grounded shielded Ethernet cables are not ANSI/TIA IEC/ISO certified → Ethernet Shielding Options - #70 by Anupc ← unlike those of us with no horse in this race, it conflicts with Commercial interests of certain vendors trying to sell such Ethernet cables.

yes - I am well aware of this, as I have shared my feedback with the moderators in the past.

One of the reasons I felt the moderators on the NAIM forum always did a very good job. Industry people, vendors, manufacturers etc. are always kept on an EXTREMELY tight leash - as they should be IMHO.

For the same reason, I take everything I see on the WBF forum with a grain of salt. A snake pit of dealers trying to pedal their wares.

Wow, is this the way to win an argument

I stopped reading wbf a couple years ago as while i initially was drawn to the product exposure i quickly saw it was strongly slanted for what few recommended and in many cases sold
