Give it a bit of time, especially if it is brandnew and only installed today
At best it gets close to my €6.60 cable and my bank account is €3,000 lighter. I don’t think so. The cheap cable didn’t need any break-in time.
I guess you bought the shunyata cable to accomplish something in your system that you didn’t get with the standard cable, what is the problem to give it some time, buyers remorse ?
By the way, my comment is not ment in a bad way, just wondering why you give up on a new cable that quickly
I think he was going to borrow it from a dealer.
We all find things differently, for me the omega ethernet is one of the best sounding cables i have tried.
They all slightly sound different, from dull to over bright.
The omega just had a lovely smoothness to it, that for me worked well with my system. It had a lovely tone to it that just made everything sound more life like and just in control, especially when comparing to some others.
The only cable that probably just beat it for me was the hemingway, and the only reason i didn’t go for that one was price. As i got the omega at a great saving x demo and the hemingway wasn’t available x demo anywhere.
The Omega digital cables in general have been the highest performing I have used.
Not to repeat again… but dCS recommends NOT using a shielded cable in the last run connecting to the DAC. The other legs in your ethernet process are fine with the fancy shielded stuff. That’s the reason those inexpensive but well made Blue Jeans cables sound far better on that last leg to your DAC.
I agree with this advice.
This is because most shielded ethernet cables have the shield grounded to both plugs, including most “audiophile” cables which are heavily based on Cat 8.
The Melco C100 is a budget example of cable which “gets it”: shielded but with this shield grounded only at one (the upstream) end.
Hey Nigel, Where in the US is that cable sold. Found one place in California. But they order every cable from overseas, one at a time. Need a stocking dealer.
Thanks
Sorry @Coppy , I am in the UK and not aware of who in the US might stock this. I would have thought every Melco dealer would carry at least one!
The Ethernet cable SRX just arrived to my office for me to try. Already have the SRX full loom and the Galileo SX powercell that was the best cable system i try on my system. Because i already had the nordost line in the Ethernet side and grounding i keep with that but now I’ll give a try to the SRX to see the difference to my Heimdall. I have big expectations
ill come back with a feedback
Oh good.
I’m so glad we have a new post on this thread!
; )

Sorry, I just couldn’t help myself.
Paraphrasing the title of this topic, I would say that different ethernet cables matter. I have had the Kubala-Sosna Elation and the Nordost Valhalla-2 for long time, side by side in my system (from switch to dac): the former has a much more natural presentation.
Which Ethernet cable does affect sound quality more, the one from router to audiophile switch (e.g. Nordost, Melco) or the one from switch to Upsampler/Streamer?
The only point to be sure of is that the cable from the switch to the dCS unit is unshielded. There are numerous postings in the archive including from dCS personnel as to why.
I am guessing that you have one costly cable and one less expensive. I have never seen a costly Ethernet cable which is not shielded so this may give you the answer. If both cables are shielded you will need to change one.
So if one from router to switch is unshielded, the other one can be shielded?
