Bartók Dilemma, Speakers or Amp

That is a very good question Andrew, especially after this afternoons demo without the Preamp and finding the sound being better just with the Power amp.

Power and Integrated are all on the table.

It threw me a bit, when my dealer suggested to upgrade the speakers first.

It may well be the case that my Kudos 606s will go well with the Power/Integrated I decide on. Who knows…

Speakers are more room dependent than anything else. You normally findvif they work well in the room then they will work well with just about anything.
If i was you i would go just for an amp.
What i can say is dCS, vitus, and kudos do go very well together.

But you will just have to do leg work yourself. We can all give hints, etc. But that’s all they are.

Perhaps you misunderstood- it was a demo and not mine.

I preferred my NAP500DR to the D’Agostino demo and stayed there until I binned the entire Naim 500 system for DarTZeel

My profile picture of me sitting on the steps of Abbey Road Studios, gives a clue that Floyd and The Beatles are favs of mine.:smirk:

That’s my gut feeling too Dunc👍

Maybe there is a hidden message for you. Abbey Road Studio’s have/had a long association with Chord Electronics. I have used Chord amplification along with dCS for many years with no intention of changing either. My own choice of speakers, alongside this electronics, is Martin Logan electrostatics.

Cheers Brian,It’s worth a look.

I was inside the control room of Studio Two, where George Martin and The Beatles spent half their lives there.
Look what speakers they’re using in the Control Room!

…and how long ago did we have that same discussion on the phone?

The NAP300 is a decent enough amp that you already have therefore it is a zero cost option to keep it.

The Kudos 606’s are a decent set of speakers - as we discussed - and they are great fun.

You’ve now proven that things are significantly better for yourself without the pre in the signal path so why not go with that for a while and then decide what (if anything) you want to do next?

This picture shows B&W Nautilus 801 monitors and is completely outdated.
According to Abbey Road Studio’s homepage (abbeyroad.com), the current monitors in Studio One and Studio Two are B&W 801 D4.
