All these expensive USB streamers, it like trying to invent the wheel again, when you can just go buy a wheel that will do it all fantastically and not cost you thousands more and still not be as good.
Why would you even entertain doing that, its because they add all the bull around it to try and make you believe you need it, they never start off by saying, usb has problems that other connections don’t, but as this is basically just a computer it only comes with usb on the mother boards so we have to use it, unfortunately its going to cost you loads, but obviously you could always just go buy something that doesn’t use usb and save yourself all the hassle. It probably what I would do, but as I have your attention then let me tell you what we have done to try and get over it, and the best bit is we charge a fortune for it but we have a good returns on it so we are happy with the result.
Dont fool for it, just use the streamer built in the dCS dac or if you really want a standalone streamer get a dCS network bridge. As you can clock it correctly then atleast.
I kind of use two dealers who are nice people, but both are guilty of, you need ‘Better Cable’ syndrome.
In all my years (73 of them ) I’ve only had one night and day situation.
Back in 2001 I had a cheap Sony HiFi with crappy speakers which were connected by, what resembled, grey doorbell wire.
Long story short, I went to Richer Sounds and he gave me some speaker cable costing £1.50 a metre.
Blimey, it was like a completely different system!
But that’s the only time.
Hiya @Anupc.
Seriously, I thought high end streamer/Servers now address that fact, and that USB was a more Direct connection, whereas, LAN goes all over the place, perhaps to Singapore and back!
I best not start something here, but I recently watched a YouTube where a computer scientific test was done on their USB re-clocker. The result, no improvement whatsoever.
Is the external drive on your dCS, or Mac? I just plugged a 250gb into the back of my Bartók, but as you know, there is a limit to how many gb it will accept. Don’t know why that is?
Sometimes I think they’re implying, that the wheel could be square, and still merrily roll along.
Exactly! Well, as I mentioned earlier, I just home demoed both Innuos products with zero improvement. One of which in fact, had no USB module installed!
So they are both being returned, a long with the Epic XL speaker cable. The weird thing is, my partner and I both thought the Kudos KS-1 was slightly better, on one of the three test tracks we used.
