A Clock for a Clock

Hi Greg = Blue Jeans Cables are easily the “best bang for the buck” in the world of audiophilia. I believe you are in the SF Bay area. We are about 45 minutes north of SF. It would be great to have post-virus get together or three!

Yes it does albeit attendance limited by the pandemic.

I bet, glad it’s still alive! Who are some of the NOLA bands you like?

Galactic, the Radiators and Down are all great in their own way!

I have never lived in or visited a city, in spite of its relatively small size, that has as many great bands as New Orleans!

Hello, I’m running a dCS vivaldi stack (DAC/Upsampler/clock) and a cybershaft op21A with external power supply (no power supply in the op21A case). I used to have Habst BNC cables that I sold few weeks ago to keep more affordable Pasternack 75ohm BNC cables I like a lot.
I had a 50ohm BNC cable from Cybershaft with adaptor 50/75ohm : not convinced…

Hi Ludovic = What are you not convinced of, the efficacy of adding the Cybershaft OP21A?

Hi Michael, I like the Pasternak cables vs the cybershaft. OP21A clock is a no brainer for me. I’m not sure if it is what some call a « toy for audiophile » but I’m just happy with it.
To come to your point, the Habst are very good.

Hi Ludovic = I’m glad to hear that you are happy with the OP21A as it’s a significant chunk of change to lay out. Any device or “audio toy” that brings more tonality, detail, or a sense of aliveness that connects me emotionally to the music will always arouse my interest and possible piggy bank depletion! What other components do you have in your system?

Very good choice with the 75ohm. Far better than the 50 ohm with adapter. Mine is connected to a scarlatti clock.

That’s the word on the street, JP!

On top of the vivaldi stack, a pair of Leedh E2 Glass as loudspeakers and an Ypsilon Phaethon as integrated amplifier.

Ypsilon makes wonderful components. I’ve heard them at shows paired with Wilson Benesch and together they make a compelling sound. I have never heard of your speakers but looked them up. Wow, what a cool design!

I’ll certainly be interested in Jesse’s reaction to your system’s external clock. I obtained a dCS Vivaldi Upsampler from him to replace a Network Bridge I’d been using with a Berkeley DAC. Not much later replaced the DAC with the dCS Vivaldi DAC and added the Vivaldi Clock with top end Transparent clock cables Jesse recommended. Been exceedingly happy with this setup.

Later on when I asked both Jesse and my dealer, Music Lovers, who I’ve worked with for a few decades, they thought it unlikely it would be a good investment. They didn’t feel the product category, unless you’re in the lab grade arena, and far more expensive ranks would provide much, if any, benefit to my system. And, given the hit or miss nature of obtaining such a high level of performance from these players, it was a roll of the dice, at best.

And in the absence of obtaining one for actual review, I’m loathe to “buy a pig in a poke”. Would love to have an opportunity to visit and hear your setup. I’m down here in Alameda and certainly could use any excuse to hop in my car. And there are a few wine makers who’ve been begging me to come visit, even if not to sip a glass or two.

I’d love to have you over, Steve! Of course, we do wuhan virus testing on our porch before entry is granted…kidding! Email me at [email protected]. BTW, Jesse has been a GREAT help to me on more than one occasion, I wish I could download a portion of his brain!

Can the Cybershaft be added to a Rossini Clock? If so, are there any benefits? Thanks.

No, it can’t be added to the Rossini Clock. You need a reference clock input, which only the Vivaldi Clock has. (From the current range, anyway.)
