Hello Community
Tomorrow I will be receiving the Vivaldi Apex, streamer, and clock. I’m excited. I look forward to reading the posts at this site. However, do you guys have any immediate tips and insights for new users? Thanks.
Welcome aboard!
Congratulations on the Vivaldi.
Congrats @Nate. Welcome to the forum, I’m sure you’ll get lots of great advice here. Your dealer should help you with initial setup which can be a bit daunting first time around. Once you’re off and running there are some options to explore, my advice is to not stress, take it at your own pace and enjoy the ride. Last tip, there is virtually no aspect of ownership or question that hasn’t been discussed (and often done to death) here on the forum. Make friends with the search function, there is a mine of information here.
Lovely Nate.
Did you buy new or secondhand? If secondhand was it one Paul had at hifi lounge? I guess that’s more .
But just make sure you have all the cables right. The clock set right, and then just enjoy listening to what is still a stunning set.
I hope you will have the manuals as this clearly shows were each cable goes and what needs setting.
But i would start with :-
Map 1 and filter 1 on dac.
Filer 1, 2 or 3 on upsampler.
Dxd x 2.
But just play about with them and see what you like.
Congratulations. However I am a little unsure exactly what you have coming as I am thrown by your reference to streamer. I assume that you mean the Upsampler but if not let us know.
If buying from accredited dealer in your region I would expect him to install the units and show you basic functions which will save you from many possible issues especially if you are new to dCS. So:
Read the manuals. Spend time doing this. it will not be wasted and will avoid problems caused by trying things only intuitively. Pay especial attention to “Settings” for filters, synch and mapping. Many things can be set by ear according to your preference but I think that you need to have some idea of what you are doing.
If you can do not stack the units. They are best used on separate shelves. This is explained in the manuals.
The supplied cables are really to get you going but if you wish to use other brands ( most do) ensure that you purchase those with the correct technical specification not merely the right sort of connectors.
If the units are new then they will sound pretty good immediately ( they have spent hours under test at the factory). However further use will be rewarded as the units burn in.
Spend time with Mosaic. Just play around selecting the various icons and finding what they do. The home page is not all there is to it.
If you run into things that you need further advice on please remember that we are here to try and assist.
NB; I think Dunc has a typo in his post. There is no DXD x2. I think this should read DSD x2. See page 30 of the Upsampler manual. Incidentally with Vivaldi you can also play files in their natural format ( no upsampling) using clone mode.
Great purchase.
Thanks Mr. Scoggins. I literally just watched your Alexia V video last week. I heard them at AXPONA last year and they really left a lasting impression.
Thank You Andrew. I know there is probably already a topic for everything, but I mostly wanted to say hi, because I love these chat forums for gear.
I bought it secondhand in the U.S. I thought it was a really good deal and opportunity to acquire some incredible gear.
Excellent, thank you. I will use those settings first.
Thanks Pete, great tips. I will do those things. I was wondering about the cables. I’ll dive into that forum further down the line. I thoroughly enjoy the manuals of products I care about.
Yes, I meant the Upsampler. I twisted my thoughts there because I remember thinking, “how am I going to stream?” when I was considering this purchase.
