Do dCS DACs change the PCM Filter from F1 to F2 automatically?

I have the F1 PCM Filter and the F1 DSD Filter selected on the Rossini. When I played the Otis Spann “Otis Spann Is The Blues (Remastered)” album the other day, I noticed that the display on the Rossini said F2. I switched back to the PCM Filter F1 but F2 in combination with the DSD Filter F1 sounded better with Otis Spann. After the album finished playing, I manually switched the PCM Filter back to F1. It stayed there until now. I’m listening to the Chet Baker “Chet” album at this moment, and the PCM Filter is back to F2. I definitely did not change it to that. I’m listening via Roon. Do dCS DACs change the PCM Filter setting depending on the type of music that is played?

The Rossini obviously does. The Chet Baker album just finished playing and Roon chose “Blue Rondo à la Turk” from The Dave Brubeck Quartet album “Time Out” as the next song, and the PCM Filter is back to F1.

Not the type of music but the file format. Please read p.35 of your user manual. Rossini will detect whether the DAC is receiving PCM or DSD data ( incoming or upsampled) and offer a choice of filters. There are 6 filter positions for PCM and 5 for DSD. The exact filter offered will be as originally selected by you for the particular file format. Of course with Rossini there is only a choice of DXD ( PCM), DSD or DSDx2. However for any given format Rossini will automatically switch to the remembered filter (until you change it).

If Rossini is new to you then you need to spend a fair amount if time experimenting. However once done it is fit and forget.

I cannot comment on the particular music cited in your post as you do not tell me their formats but I am assuming that the Chet Baker and Dave Brubeck albums have different file formats which is why the filter numbers change ( nice choice of music BTW ).

Thank you, you are right. The Rossini plays all the FLAC 192kHz 24bit files with PCM F2. I had mixed up the Otis Spann albums BTW. It’s this one with F2. I like the way the settings are now, and won’t mess with them. My Rossini was a demo unit.
