DCS Vivaldi display and playback issue

I am experiencing a recurring display problem with my Vivaldi DAC and would appreciate your guidance on diagnosis and repair.

Symptoms:
• The front display intermittently glitches and freezes. Sometimes the screen frozen, but the music runs fine, but sometimes it has
Progressed to full screen tearing with purple/pink vertical line artifacts across the entire display (photo attached).
• The most recent occurrence happened while the unit was idle — no input switching, nothing connected to the Toslink input, and no user interaction. The display corrupted on its own.
• Earlier instances seemed to be triggered by switching inputs, but this latest event occurred with the unit sitting completely still, which rules out input/format issues.

Things I have already tried:
• Force-restarting the unit (holding Power), which temporarily resolves it, but the problem keeps returning.
• Setting connected sources (e.g. TV via Toslink) to PCM output, and disconnecting Toslink entirely.
Could you please advise whether this is likely a display ribbon cable, display driver board, or panel fault, and what the repair options and costs would be? I can provide the serial number and current firmware version on request.

I have heard of similar but rare issues with other units but not Vivaldi. However it may be the same and require replacement of the display.

This realty needs to receive attention from an authorised service facility. This forum is mainly a dialogue between us dCS customers and we cannot give you the costs that you seek,

You should contact dCS support directly here:

[email protected]

Give them the serial number and a description of the issue (as above) and let them know where you are situated.

I have a very similar issue on My Upsampler. Occasionally my screen/front buttons lock up - can’t use any buttons on front and the display screen doesn’t change. However, the unit works flawlessly via Mosaic, Qobuz, Connect etc.

If I do a hard reset, the display/buttons do come back… but generally it happens again. Could be 5 minutes or 30 days.

DCS diagnosed it as a needed control board replacement, just haven’t sent it to the repair facility yet, given that the device works fine via the App tools..

Is the firmware update for the bartok and rossini the same as what the vivaldi is running now?

Also can non apex units run this update ok?

James gives a list of the (possible) forthcoming features:

*new Mappers 4 & 5, DSDx4 Upsampling, a new PCM Peak Control feature for Intersample Overs, two new PCM filters for 48-96kS/s, Expanse 3 (where supported)
None of these feature in the current Vivaldi firmware ( v.2.11). So it’s all new stuff. They will decide whether to develop versions for other lines like Vivaldi once the UAT/Beta test of Rossini/Bartok is complete.

Apex affects the DAC and output stages, not the operating firmware. So I assume that non-Apex Rossini and Bartok may take advantage of the update if and when it becomes available. Prior to this owners of these units could register to test and provide feedback once an invitation to register is posted on 29th.
