Initially played around with Cisco commercial grade switches. I then moved to Cisco commercial fiber optic. It stayed in the system for a few months until I ultimately took it down.

I am now using a Cisco Business CBS110-8T-D Unmanaged Switch which cost, at the time, $49 - as recommended by @all2ofme and others.

Thanks. Is the switch there at all to give you more ports? Or to improve sound quality? A lot of respect for Cisco here.

I share your respect for the expertise of dCS engineers too. @MoreBeer’s point was not about any DAC manufacturer in particular, it was a general point about what does/can and doesn’t cannot matter in networked audio. That was what I disputed.

No doubt about it, as an owner of a unit (not in use), I can categorically state that the EtherRegen is a piece of overpriced trash. What it does is worth about $50, not $600 :laughing:

You’re treating a digital network cable like it’s an analogue audio interconnect. They’re not even in the same category.

Yes, everyday EMI exists — but Ethernet cabling is literally designed to reject it. The twist geometry, the controlled impedance, and the built‑in isolation on every Ethernet port wipe out common‑mode noise long before the data ever reaches the circuitry. If you ever want to look up how that works, just shout and I’ll point you to the relevant standards — IEEE 802.3 is a good start.

Once you’re past that physical barrier, you’re in a purely digital domain. The hardware extracts the bit‑perfect data payload, and the analogue world only begins inside the DAC, at the reconstruction stage. Nothing in the Ethernet cable can “bleed” into the analogue output unless the DAC is badly engineered.

And honestly, if everyday EMI were somehow bleeding into Ethernet cables and altering data, the world would have far bigger problems than audio tweaks. Your bank balance would be skewed, medical records corrupted, financial markets in chaos — because all of those systems rely on the exact same digital integrity. You get the picture.

So if an audio device is so fragile that it needs a $600 “Ethernet band‑aid” to behave properly, that’s a DAC problem, not a network problem.

I also had one for a short time, the fact it got so hot bothered me more than anything, it was like it was was going to catch alight and burn the house down. It soon went, utter crap.
